Klipsch 2.1 speakers trouble with volume

Severaly years ago I got a brand new Klipsch 2.1 speaker system and really loved it. Eventually, it stopped working and I believed the problem to be something in the subwoofer, although I had my suspicions it may have been the connection either from the right speaker to the subwoofer (on either end) or from the right speaker to the audio out (the speaker end).

so I found them packed away and I tested the right and left speaker with my stereo using just the speaker wires and they worked fine. I hooked the subwoofer up and tried using the audio-out jack to my computer and was confused. The power-LED on the right speaker was not illuminated, however sound was coming from the speaker if the volume was turned all the way DOWN (faint, but clear sound). If the volume was turned up, the audio disappeared.

What would cause this? I thought maybe not enough power was getting to the speakers. Also, I got the right and left speaker off the internet to replace the old ones and the connection from the right speaker to the subwoofer (its is a 6-pin type) doesn't seem like the original connection, it doesn't seem to penetrate the female end as much. What could be the problem?

 

If the power LED lit up without the subwoofer attached, it's my guess the subwoofer has a wiring short or (if it has its own power adapter/cord) a bad power adapter/transformer.

Unless you have a geeky friend who is good with a soldering iron and finding obscure replacement parts, I'd stick to using them without the subwoofer.
