    Greetings,

I got the kmixer.sys BSOD just recently. I suspect that i have a nasty on my box somewhere, and as I have tried to follow the Stickies for Malware removal I have run into a wall from the get go.

When I try to run/install the SAS I get the message that the sys.admin has set policies to not allow for install. I followed the directions to get around this by disabling the installer and still have no success.

    Win XP Pro SP2
    ASUS MOBO
2 Dual Core AMD Opteron 265
Drive Partitioned for Linux::Ubuntu OS option

    Any advice is warmly heeded...;)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

kmixer.sys may just be some kind of audio mixer. If that is the case, problems with it and BSODs should be posted in the Software Forum.

However if still wish to run the malware cleaning procedure, you should be following the instructions give which stated the below right near the beginning.
Thus you need to keep on going trying ALL steps.

So I am pursuing this thread based on the aggregate data I have compiled in regards to the kmixer.sys issue.

Thus far I have done the following:

Step 1: House Cleaning & Setup
Step 2: Enable viewing of hidden files, system files and file extensions
Step 3: Select and run the all steps in the cleaning link below based on your Windows Operating System
*If you are a Spybot Search and Destroy user, make sure that you do not have Teatimer enabled
*SuperAntiSpyware was prevented from being installed due to manipulated permissions (I could not get around this per Major Geeks advice)
    * Combofix
    *MGTools

The logs are attached. Also of note I found a little nasty on my box called Darkspykernel.sys...What is this?

    Thanks,

    Christian

You did not shutdown your protection software before running ComboFix. As a result, it did not run properly. Please run it again but this time make sure that you shutdown your protection software first. If you have a problem running ComboFix in normal boot mode, try running it in safe boot mode. Attach the new log.

    Also run the below:

    Resetting Registry and File Permissions

Then see if you can install and run SUPERAntiSpyware

A file from an anti-rootkit tool that you have probably run.
