knackered hard drive

i noticed may grapics card was unplugged today so with out thinkin i shout down plugged it in and restarted and was presented with this

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

i know i should have took precautions and blah blah but i have done this a million times before with no ill effects. i tried to use rcover console and as soon as i press R i get a bsod

the same happens when i try to reistall
this wouldnt be a problem normaly but i`d backed up my girlfriends laptop onto it while its being repaired and its been written off so we wont get the hard drive back

Try reseating the Graphics card and if that fails and you can get to BIOS to change boot order do a 'System Repair' using your XP disc.

 

ok so here is were i got to so far.
i managed to get the hard drive to work in my spare pc reformated it and put it back. now i get a messge tellinhg me to select boot device. every thing is ok in the bios so it aint that. i`m begining o think that the mobo is fubar again (i`ve only had this one a week)
i tried this hard drive in the other pc and get a blue screen
i`m so sick of pcs.
jus gonna go and not down the blue screen message and google itconfused
