I have a Dell desktop with an i5-3570 CPU, 3.40GHz and 8GB Ram running 64bit Windows 10 pro
Mouse keeps lagging. I move it to a point on the screen then when I try to move it to another point it stops there for a second as though it's thinking about it before it follows on. It happens a lot so becomes annoying
    Could someone advise?
    Thanks

I have noticed this problem for a couple of weeks now. Drives me crazy! Before that I didn't have any problems with the cursor following the mouse.
I'm using Windows 10 Home with the 2004 update.

I would be grateful if someone with some expertise could respond to my initial post which is still an ongoing problem.
    Thank you

Is this a wired mouse or wireless?
If wired have you tried a different USB port?
If wireless have you updated any software or firmware from the manufacturer’s website?
    Have you changed/recharged the batteries?
What’s the make & model of the mouse?

My mouse is a Logitech M-500 wired mouse.
I have tried a different USB port.
I have and will test a new M-500S mouse and will report the results here.

Thank you for help so far
I have an HP wired mouse MODGUO class 1 LED mouse. It says for use with UL listed L.T.E computer whatever that means
I changed the USB connection from back of PC to a front socket and found a slight difference but there is still a lag
In Device Manager i found that it's using Microsoft's driver which is up to date
    I couldn't find a driver on HP's website

    That’s possibly why it’s lagging.
Usually a wired mouse doesn’t require specific drivers.
I can’t find any driver either.
It may be that it isn’t compatible with Windows 10.

I, too, have noticed unusual mouse responses recently, last month or so, on my Dell Win 10 with a wireless Logitech M310. My wife also has experienced this on her Acer laptop using a wireless mouse. With mine, it seems okay and at other times you have to click on something several times before you get a response. Of interest is that when I first open Firefox, a lot of times I click on one of my bookmarks and it will open a Fox News site. I personally think some, if not all of this, is the result of devious intentions by various parties to get you where they want you. I did just purchase new Logitech M310 mouses for my wife and myself but haven't installed them yet. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Thank you for sending me the link.
    1. I went to the site by clicking on the link that you included in your previous email.
    2. I clicked the Downloads button.
    3. I clicked the Setpoint link near the bottom of the page. A Set Point window opened.
    4. About 3/4 of the way through the Install process something happened. I can't recall what the message was, but I had to quit the program.
I also downloaded the "FirmwareUpdateTool_1.2.169_x86.exe" and clicked on it, but it told me that no compatible receiver was detected so I guess that link was for something else.

In any event, the problem I had with the mouse temporarily halting has stopped since I plugged in the M-500S mouse. At least I think it has. I have not seen the problem since using the new mouse.

The Firmware update tool will require the Unifying receiver to be connected is this so?
If you have a 64bit machine then you need to download the 64bit version of SetPoint - not (x86) which is for 32bit machines.

I’d need the exact error message in order to diagnose the problem. It may be you downloaded the 32bit version but require the 64bit version.

RE: your first link - I don't need to update any firmware.

RE: your second link - I followed the link, downloaded the app and started it. The install finished. This is the same result that I received when I tried to install it a few days ago. Here is the message:

    2020-12-09_18-18-15 Setpoint 6_69.jpg
In any event, the mouse works without the Setpoint stuff. No more freezing/skipping. Thank you for your help.

If the mouse is now working then I’d not worry if you can’t install SetPoint.

Got a new mouse, Logitech M510, and so far so good after several hours of use.
