Whenever I go to websites, in any textarea boxes, it lags really bad like I'll start typing but the words don't show up as fast as I'm typing them. Like it'll type each individual letter almost 2-3 seconds after I punched the key. I haven't noticed any other problems in any applications other than Internet Explorer.

What I did to try and fix the problem was install windows updates for IE but that didn't work so I reinstalled IE and the problem remained.

If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Have you scanned for spyware recently?

Yeah, it detected nothing but a bunch of cookies which have now been deleted.

have you checked your CPU usage (and the associated task) in the task manager to determine if there was any other app other than IE sucking up cpu cycles?

Yeah, there was nothing foreign listed when I pulled the running tasks via ctrl+alt+delete .

I forgot to mention that this is not my computer listed below that I'm working with this problem, its another one of mine with Windows 98 loaded.

you have any ad blockers running..
I will start killing processes one by one and testing.

The only listed processes when this problem occurs is explorer, internet explorer, and zone alarm as my firewall. I tried shutting down Zone Alarm and using IE without it and the same problem still occured.

Do you think this problem could dig deeper than on Windows such as a hardware issue?

no, I think this is a software issue.. disable your av and close your favorites bar.. something is scanning something in the background.

Okay, sound is always disabled on that system so it's not that. And I don't have a favorites bar running, just the favorites menu in IE where you point, click and it pulls down.

I had win98 se and it would do that to me too. Try empting all the cookies and offline content that it will let you via the internet options panel. That sometimes fixes it. Watch out though, because it likes to hog recources while it's emptying those. It may even say it stopped responding. Wait a min or two and it will probably start running again.

I tried emptying all the cookies and temp. internet files, through Internet Options & manually and I'm still experiencing lagging unfortunately.

I just read both of those articles and tried what they said and still nothing works.

I've uninstalled a bunch of programs to see if they were conflicting in anyway with IE and I still had problems. Internet Explorer was working perfectly fine until a few days ago and I didn't modify or add anything to my system at all, especially something that would cause something like this to happen.

My friend had this problem with Win 98 and AOL. Another reason to just say no to AOL.
