    Depending on the model and make of the router it should have up to 4 LAN outlets all you need is an Ethernet cable from the router to your PC

    I'm sorry I don't understand what you are trying to switch?

    Is the pc already connected to your dorm's internet by another connection?

    Or do you want to distribute the Dorm's Lan connection to several pcs?

    To access the control for the router connect it via an ethernet cable to a pc and type

    http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your browser.

    (you may not need the http:// depending upon your browser)

    user = admin
    password = password

    are the standard settings for netgear. If someone has changed these in the past reset the router with the switch at the back. Hold this in for 10 seconds.

    You will then be able to access all that is configurable about your router.

    Studiot-- One of my internet ports is out in my room, and all i am trying to do is use my router so my xbox can be connected to xbox live while i am using my computer, but our computers have to have Cisco clean access agent installed on them, therefore when i run my computer through my router it does not work, but i need my router to work as a switch, which i know is possible so i can run both my xbox and computer at the same time. I know it is confusing but do you have any suggestions?

    theres nothing you really have to do to use your switch ports. just dont use the wan port and you wont be routing anything. also turn your dhcp off before you plug it in to your school network.
