hello, i have an issue with lan install. in the network connections. in control panel i show no lan icon to install a hardwire conection to the router. i have Att Uverse and am connecting using a wireless netgear.i am using a C600 latitude
with XPpro service pack 2. iam suppose to have a download speed of 9-12 mgbs. after testing for speed i get between 4.3-7.83. I contacted Att they said i SHOULD BE GETTING MIN 9MGBS. THEY SUGGEST GOING HARDWIRE. can someone help me to reinstall the icon and lan settings? is the cable system faster? (Cox or time warner)

To have an "icon" the computer needs a cable network card.

Check the computer's support page to find out if there is a card and how to switch it on and install the drivers.

    In general, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

when you connect to the router with an ethernet cable, you don't get any response from your computer at all?

Go to Control Panel > Network connections and look for Local Area Connection. What does it say when you are plugged in? If you right click and go to properties, then in the list go to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select it and click properties, is anything set there? You should be fine with Obtain IP Address Automatically and obtain DNS servers automatically.

Is cable faster? There are options in both uverse and cable that are likely faster than your computer. It depends on what options are available in your area and sometimes how good the service in your area is. Are you using wireless N?
