LAN issue...

    Now a new [related?] problem?

    On the laptop, icons just disappeared for the LAN connection, volume, and power source. LAN connection button was unchecked, and is now checked, and back in taskbar. But volume, and power supply 'show icon in taskbar' is checked, and they're MIA.

    They are in taskbar and start menu properties/customize notifications, as 'past items', and as a folder, and not an icon, at that!!!

    For a couple of dummies (speaking of myself) .... it only took us 50 posts to get there ..... really did think we had done a static ip address early on ... had to go back through all the posts to try to figure out what was missing .... happy days ...good to return the favor.

    Un check and then get out and come back and recheck .... are you just one of those people (like my wife) that only needs to walk past a computer to make it start acting weird? (LOL)
    Right click on the taskbar and choose properties/ customize and right click on any item in the past items and bring it back to the task bar. (restore it)

    Just checked my taskbar properties to be sure and in past items I have (I'm kidding you not) 15 million windows activation notices (screwing around with the registry a while back and popped up the activation ballon showing I had a MINUS 15 million days to activate ....cool!!!)

    Sure!

    I don't remember which lead of mine it was that helped you - I was hoping to solve my problem in the process of looking at problems in a [your] more complex network problem.

    Many times it's easy to diagnose a car problem, even though you don't have the tools to fix it.

    Among the many things I've done in my life, (including rebuilding engines, and have the tools and experience), it's very irksome to have my wife tell me she "feels" the truck is telling her that it's such and such, not what I'm thiking it is, and have her be right!!!

    Listen to all. [Fools] aren't biased. Compliance isn't always necessary, but remember what the fool said. And I don't remember if there was a lead earlier that was useful, but it's all good.

    Let's think through a comparable problem again!

    Okay...

    Re-booted for the power icon, and it didn't come up. And the volume icon went back away, after your suggestion about un-checking and re-checking worked.


    I can't imagine that that has ANYTHING to do with IP assign...
