LAN ping problem

This is a simple network with 3 PCs hard wired through a Belkin wireless router, 2 wireless PCs, a second access point, network printer and an AS400. All the PCs can connect to the internet and can ping the router, printer, access point and AS400 but cannot ping each other.

All firewalls have ICMP echo enabled but with or without the firewalls active the result is the same. I have tried several things including reset winsock and the TCP stack with no joy. Anyone have another suggestion?

 

Are all devices using the same subnet as their IP?

 

Yes, All are 192.168.7.x but I think I found the problem. I have McAfee running on all the PCs and have had ICMP response enabled on the Mcafee firewalls since they were originally installed. In desperation I checked and all the PCs had ICMP disabled. Apparently McAfee sent an update in the last month or so that reset them. Re-enabled ICMP on all the PCs and all are responding.

The laptops move outside so they need the firewalls but I am not so sure the machines that are always behind the router's firewall do. I believe I am going to disable the individual firewalls on the hard wired PCs and just leave the virus protection up.

 

I am not sure about McAfee's security capabilities, but if the firewall portion of it is decent then there should be a way to allow ICMP traffic from within only your internal network.
