Laptop Battery Shutdown?

Well, for months my laptop's battery life has been questionable, so I just replaced it!

I've also been having random shutdown issues with the laptop, which I assumed was an overheat problem... But, I don't think that issue has been a problem with the laptop plugged in.

Anyway, the new battery worked fine for a while, and then just stopped! No battery response, no turning on without the adapter plugged in... It's almost as if the battery just died. However, since the issue started before the replacement, it makes me wonder if it's not the battery, but the connection to the battery!

Any ideas, especially ways to troubleshoot this? :confused

Let me also say that I did read the recommended topics and none helped. I have also just recently replaced the AC adapter, so that's not the issue... Bump? rolleyes

do you have anyway of testing the output voltage of the battery/battery terminals.(IE volt meter or circuit tester, Voltage should be higher than the voltage rating of the battery in question) as it could be that the power circuit that charges the battery is faulty,
even when a laptop is plugged in to the AC Adaptor it will cycle the battery(trickle drain and charge) to try and ensure longer battery life. now if the charge is not happening it will slowly drain the battery without your knowledge.

Well... New update on this. Apparently it is my AC/DC adapter (the one I originally had was only AC, is this an issue?). I checked the outputs again and the are all the same as the old adapter... The laptop works fine with the new adapter in, but no charge (and the battery was at 0% too). I got out the old adapter and wiggled it around (it won't work if it's not wiggled just right and stays like that), and it still charges the battery, so it's got to be the new adapter. Why would this be? The ratings on the adapter are all the same, and it was advertised as working for my laptop (Dell Latitude 110L). I am emailing the company I bought it from as well.

    Hey there,

    This isnt intirely relevant although,

Recently I was overseas and bought a phone charger the salesperson assured me it would work... well it did kind of. At first it would say charging and after a minute or so of being on standby when the screen was greyed out it would say something along the lines of incompatible charger.. you what.. after saying it ws charging.. must be new technology they put in the detects the default type of charger or sumtin like that.

As an alternative, is getting the original power adapter re-cabled an option, if the original issue is potentially with the adapters wire or connection and not the power adapter itself. Then sell of the newer power adapter to cover costs of repairing the old adapters cable... just an idea.
