    Running Windows 8.1 64 bit
    Lenovo G500s touch

All other laptops can connect to wifi. I tried LAN and it doesn't work either. The laptop can connect to my Linksys router fine and everything seems fine until I open up a page in Chrome or IE and I get nothing.

I ran MBAM and it removed a trojan. Also the drivers seem to be fine. The WLAN card is an Atheros.

I'm sure you don't get 'nothing'. Can you tell us exactly what does happen?

Chrome tries to load a page then fails and says "This webpage is not available".

It could be a DNS issue. Open a command prompt and type ping speedtest.net <Enter>. If it succeeds it is not DNS but if it fails type ping 216.146.46.10. Let us know what happens.

Falconattack: Yes I have tried Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

Earthling: It succeeded. 4/4 packets sent/received, average 36ms.

Has it been working but stopped, or has it never worked? If the former have you tried a system restore yet?

I've seen two other threads recently with this exact same issue, both touchscreen. No one has posted an answer yet.

It worked before. No I haven't tried system restore yet. Should I?

If you have a restore point that pre-dates the problem there is no reason not to. System restore is the first thing to try when a problem suddenly appears.

Ok here's what happened. I ran system restore but it said that it couldn't finish because something was keeping it from accessing a file. It said to try to disable your anti-virus software. I disabled it and the built-in firewall and the net was working again. I confirmed that it was the firewall that was blocking the internet. I then realized that I was using the trial version of avg which has the firewall so I downgraded it back to the free version and now everythings running fine. Thank you for the help!

Thanks for the feedback - hope you remembered to re-enable the built-in firewall :eek
