Have a new laptop, less than 5 months old. About a month or two ago it stopped reading discs of all kinds; CD-R's and RW's, DVD's, regular CD's...everything. I have no idea why, i never even burned anything on here. Just one day it worked fine then the next day i popped a cd to listen to it and it wouldnt read it...Help!

    1. Before you start taking it apart of having someone work on it, check the warranty status it's less than a year old it may still be covered.
    2. You can also go in device manager and see if there are any driver issues.

    JKO15,

Some laptops have where you can physically remove the CD drive via a screw or lock devices on the laptop. If so, try removing the drive(when its off, of course), clean the contacts at both ends with a good spray contact cleaner like QD Electronic Cleaner, let dry, and re-insert the drive into the laptop, power it up.

When you put the disk in is it spinning up and not finding the disk? If this is the case you may need to clean your lens, I normally use one of those cd lens cleaning disks with a small brush on it.
If you have to clean it by hand be careful as it is a delicate assembly

It makes a few noises like it's reading the disc but then it stops and nothing comes up...I checked the device manager and its says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Check device manager for any X, ? of ! ...you may just need to reinstall the driver. Which you can get on the manufacturers website.
