Can anypne recommend me some external hardware that can cool my laptop? I'm thinking of using some compressed air when I get some but also want some sort of unit with fans which can cool my laptop as well. UK links would be preferred please.

Here's a page that has a bunch of them. You just put your laptop on top of it.

Zalman, Cooler Master and Thermaltake are all known for making good products. I haven't heard of Alaska before, but if you're not too worried about performance and you just need a bit of heat spreading, I guess they would be fine too.

Ok will definitely look at it. Is the website reliable or will it be better trying to find it on Amazon/Overclockers?

It looks like reputable site, however I have no idea how good that site is, because I personally live in Canada. Amazon might be better.

Here's the Amazon link for notebook coolers. The prices differ by a few pounds, but Amazon has a much wider selection.

I would suggest finding one with good reviews and then looking for it using a website similar to http://www.shopbot.ca/

This one is for Canada, but I'm sure there are ones similar to it in the UK.

I can't see any differences except for the price.

The "specifications" and the descriptions are both the same.
Unless Play.com is a well known website, I'd buy it from Amazon, as the price is better and Amazon is a better known site. I don't know about shipping, but Play.com says it's got free shipping. You'll just have to decide for yourself where you are going to get it from.

Once again, thank you. I'll go with the Belkin one then from Play.

Ok. But isn't the pad from Amazon cheaper overall, since shipping is only like 4 dollars? Or maybe I read wrong.

    That's the one I meant. :p

Thinking of getting a MyBook externall HDD from there as well so it should be free shipping.

Ah, yes. That's a good idea as well.

I have two laptops and I don't use a cooler on either one.

Run only the bare minimum of programs, services and TSR's and minimize hard drive usage by loading the Kernal into ram and then set the drive to spin-down after 5 minutes of inactivity and you will seriously minimize the heat buildup inside the little PC.

Then raise the back of the laptop about an inch off the desktop, so it can breath easier and you can save the price and bulk of a Laptop Cooler.

    * Never set a Laptop on a soft surface like a rug or a bed, or even your lap.
The air intake will be blocked and the Laptop PC will heat up seriously.

Laptops that are operated Intelligently will operate within specifications without additional cooling.

I set up laptops all the time for my customers and NOT ONE of them uses a cooler. They all run just fine.

    Good Luck,
    The Shadow :cool
