.My other laptop died which is why I am dealing with this one. the screen just went black and when I would turn it off it would restart itself. I took out the battery and set it aside for a few days. I just tried to turn it on again but still the black screen,(i even plugged it into my external monitor, but its not detecting anything.) but it doesn't try to restart itself anymore. Any Ideas?

What operating system does it have? When you start the computer do you see anything? If so please describe exactly what you see.

Windows 10…I see nothing. Honestly not holding out much hope for this one, but I thought I’d at least ask.

You don't even see the initial POST screen in the lower left hand corner where it shows what keys you can press to change the boot order or enter BIOS ? It flashes by pretty fast.

After you take out the battery, if you haven't done so already, hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Connect the power then try to boot.

One last thing. If you haven't tried already remove the battery, connect the power cord and try to boot. Let me know if there is any activity.

I fear you are correct, no hope. Do you have files on it you want to try to salvage?

Your symptoms sound like the problem is with the computer rather than the hard drive. Assuming this is the case, here would be the steps.

    Remove the hard drive
Obtain a USB adapter to connect the drive to working computer, similar to connecting a regular USB (I can help identify the adapter needed)
Connect the hard drive to a working computer via the adapter. It will show up as an external drive
Copy and paste files from the connected hard drive onto the working computer
