    I am having problems with my dad's laptop display and the tech guys claimed that the display port on the motherboard is "damaged" which supposedly is the cause behind the flickering on the display and why it goes blank when you move the display a little bit forwards or backwards.
    While I was using the laptop after I got it back I was busy looking at a number of display options and the one in a separate window asked if I wanted to use an external display exclusively which I checked,applied and when I wanted started up the laptop later on that evening the display was blank? I can use an external display but it really keeps me locked to one spot and I can't use it anywhere... :(

    Ever since the problem with the display happened a number of screensavers whether they are 3D or not will crash upon start and according to the event viewer in the following two log entries:

    "A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (Moolah3D.scr)" and

    "The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application"

    Those screensavers ran fine before.I just hope the tech guys didn't mess up the laptop somehow. :(

    I have tried to find that option again but cannot find it.Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks.

    BTW the laptop runs Vista Home Basic SP2 and it is a Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC.

    Please specify what option you are referring to.

    If you mean internal, external or two displays, usually the F5 key toggles between internal, external or both.

    I downloaded the Notebook Tour from here
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...ebook-pc-series/3837670/model/3860048/manuals

    It really only shows a picture. Based on that the F4 key, which shows a screen might be the function key to toggle the various display options.

    When the display goes blank does it still display items?

    Get a flash light and shine it on the LCD panel (preferably in a darker room). Can you see anything?

    The option to no longer use an external display exclusively and use the laptop's display "problems" with it or not. The tech guys claimed the display port on the motherboard damaged the circuit board that connects the display and the motherboard and that monitors when you close the screen it tells the laptop to shutdown or put the laptop into sleep mode,etc..

    @risk_reversal

    Sometimes the screen has white\yellow vertical lines or goes blank.

    Definitely one of the function keys will use the internal display. Perhaps F4 or F5.

    Tried the Function button and F4 which suppose to switch between each display but nothing. :( Unless I can find that option again I am stuck using an external display.

    Control panel, Display? (I have connect to a projector on my laptop). When I click that I get 4 options: computer only, duplicate, extend and projector only.

    @plodr
    The external display is the only one connected. :( I did post the problem here:answers.microsoft.com in the hopes of getting any help but nothing so far. It could be a simple registry edit by changing a DWORD value from "1" to "0" or not but still. :(
