    Hi,
I purchased a Dell Inspirion laptop which has Windows 10 installed.
I don’t have any disc for it.
I’ve been using it for say 3 weeks fine but last night it froze.
I switched it off then on but I then seen a screen which said something like preparing automatic repair. It was on this screen for 10 minutes but didn’t do anything. I switched it off by pressing the off button for 20 seconds then I started to use it fine.

Ive just switched it on to now see You pc couldn’t start properly.
    File windows\system32\config\system
    Error code 0xc000014c

    Please advise.
    Thanks.

If you are saying this notebook is 3 weeks old, you need to be contacting either Dell or the place you bought it from for tech support.

And in the future, note that automatic repairs can take a lot longer than 10 minutes while appearing to be totally locked up. Best to just walk away for awhile (even an hour) and see if it comes alive after that.

If the error continues, and you cannot start, then you need to check the hard drive, and system files.(bcd problem)
If you do not have a disc, then you can download an iso file for windows 10, and will need an 8gb usb stick to transfer the iso to.
Download the creation tool from here and the iso,
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
    and click the second option
Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 10 on a different PC (click to show more or less information)
Follow the directions to creat your own dvd

Insert Windows 10 r installation USB into PC -choose- Boot from the USB.
Click Repair your computer or hit F8 at the Install now screen.
Click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
Run the CHKDSK, and THEN SFC /SCANNOW AS DESCRIBED HERE
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...ry-environment-winre-to-troubleshoot-common-s
Type exit, when complete to allow restaart (do not press any keys, and it should start into the windows you have, andd not the dvd-leave the dvd where it is, in case you still have difficulty starting Windows properly)
If this does not give you a clear start, then in the as before, start from the dvd, and get to command prompt you and try
Type Bootrec /fixmbr and press the enter .(note the space after Bootrec )
Type Bootrec /fixboot and press the enter.(note the space after Bootrec ).
If all ges well, then whist still in command prompt
Type Bootrec /scanos and press the enter
Type Bootrec /rebuildbcd and press the enter.
Type "A" to add the installation to the boot list and hit enter.
