K so hi everyone im pretty much new to these forums

I recently found myself some free time in my schedule and would like to start Warhammer probably

    I am an old DAOC//CS 1.5 and 1.6 player//War3/WoW , pretty much those i played a lot.

Now i am in need for a laptop for school and i thought why not try and get one that could run warhammer online so i could use it for both, my old desktop isnt good nomore it lags on CS 1.6 a bit and stuff.

I was looking at alienwares etc, i love them but i cant afford a decent one from their website theyre way too expansive. I was looking on ebay and forums, either go for a used one or something i dont really mind i know there are some real good deals out there.

Alienware is only a preference, i dont really mind another brand,as long as it can run AT least warhammer online fully.

I am asking here if anyone would know of any for a decent price (it CAN be used)

Basically it has to be a good computer so yeah. I lost track with all those new technologies and i dont know what to look after etc thats why i am asking here.

    Thanks a lot :_)

Gaming laptops are NOT cheap. A good friend of mine owns a small independent PC shop where I do lots of service/tech work and he recently custom configured a gaming laptop for a customer: it had SLI nVidia 8800GT video, 4gb DDR2, 2 x 320gb hard drives in RAID, BluRay DVDRW, Vista Ultimate x64, and had a price tag of $3200. But since SLI video and a BluRay burner aren't really requirements, you can probably expect to spend about half that amount on a good gaming laptop. Figure a minimum of $1500 for a good gaming laptop; higher end laptop PCs for gaming start at about $2000.

    I know theyre not cheap.

I am looking around 1600 or something.

For now, in NEW laptops i was looking at those Asus G50v-A2 or some Gateway ones.

IF anyone could check them out for me or suggest something else would be very appreciated.

I used to know some about computers but man it has been a while so im kinda clueless with those Intel Core 2 DUo or Amd or P4, differencebetween those etc. Thanks :)

ok...i dunno how much a laptop can be customized, but here is a take...i tried several laptops from my friends and here is what I recommend:

try AMD X2 processor...they are better than Intel Core2Duo AND cost a tad less...although they have a problem of overheating during over-clocking

add to that the nVidia 8800GT(the one recommended by dlb) OR the ATI radeon(forgot the number...the one with 512 MB memory is a good choice)

Also, dont look for those sleek models...they cost a hell lot, with an inherent battery/heat problem...a bit thicker laptop is easier on the pocket and works great with a sound blaster built-in....

    --------
    separate comments:
cache in gaming PCs/laptops in under-rated...go for one that has ATLEAST 2 MB of L1 cache...if they say that they give u 1MB of L1 and 4MB of L2, dont go for it...L1 Should be as high as possible for a trouble free (read no splicing/freezing) gaming experience...however, L1 cache would cost a tad more...

    Stick with Intel.

AMD X2 cannot even hope to keep up with a Core 2 Duo.
