When I start up my laptop I get a message saying no hard drive disk detected. I was wondering if the hard drive is bad or if it could be another problem internally. Thanks for your help

it certainly could be that the connection to the hard drive is loose, or the hard drive controller on the motherboard is bad, but in all the cases I have come across that problem, the hard drive has been the culprit.

you might try checking the connection if possible, and seeinf if the BIOS detect the drive.

Find out which company made the drive, visit thier web site and download and run thier diagnostic tool. All the drive makers have 'em for free....

If the drive is not detected, it can be anything from the drive is bad, to the IDE controller went poop. I have a seven year old desktop downstairs on my workbench that I now have to put in a third party controller card, due to the onboard IDE controller took a crap.
