Laptop Issue - Started with McAfee Firewall

    Hello,

Last week, my laptop was acting funny and McAfee suddenly posted an alert that my firewall was off (I chose McAfee Firewall over Windows native firewall). It would not turn back on...pretty standard I guess, based on other threads I've read.

Anyhow, every time I tried to turn it on, it immediately switched back to off. I turned off the wifi at that point and waited until today to check into scanning tutorial from majorgeeks.

After I had started the process described in the Run and Readme thread on this forum, I thought maybe I should check McAfee for updates. Checking for updates resolved the McAfee Firewall issue. However, I had some weird experiences while completing the rest of the malware scanning tutorial.

My computer kept seeing several of the malware scanning programs as actual malware, which I didn't think much of, given the warnings that this is likely. But...then at one point, I saw McAfee throw an alert about Artemis and that got me worried.

Okay, sorry for the long story. So, I decided to continue the full process described in the Run and Readme thread, get the necessary logs and upload just to make sure I didn't screw anything up. Logs are attached, per instructions. NOTE: TDSSKiller did not generate a log. It only said that no threats were found.

Your time and any help you can provide is deeply appreciated.

    Respectfully,
    Standard

Your logs are clean. From what I understand, Mcafee is now behaving, correct?
What other issues remain if any, I see none.

The laptop is not acting strangely but a couple malware scanning programs downloaded from the run and read tutorial identified things that gave me some concern:

RogueKiller found these and asked if I wanted them deleted:

    [HJ POL] HKLM\[...]\System : DisableRegistryTools (0) -> FOUND

HitmanPro found these (8 threats) and threw a warning about Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Injector!IK and Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Injector.jfpr:

And then there are so many text files from the MGtools scans that I cannot even begin to understand what I'm looking at.

I'm not super savvy when it comes to this stuff but I probably know just enough to panic when I see things like "Trojan-Dropper" and "Injector", whether they're harmful or not.

For my own sanity and peace of mind, could you address the blue items above to help me better understand them? If you could briefly explain why they happened to confirm that I should not be concerned, I would really appreciate it.

    Best,

    In response to your queries:

    RogueKiller found nothing of concern.

Hitman Pro also found nothing of concern. Obviously we know MGTools is not a threat. ;) False positive there.
That is exactly what I am here for, to analyse your logs.

Are you ready for me to post final steps? :)

    :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
