Laptop Message

The problem is with my wife's 3 month old HP, Intel Core I7, Win 10 laptop. It's left on always and overnight the last 2 nights it shows the following message:

"Boot device not found

Please install an operating system on your hard drive

Hard Disk - (3FO)"

A reboot has solved the problem thus far as it boots up as normal after shut down. Any help would be appreciated.

 

It sounds like the hard drive is failing. Try running drive testing software like CrystalMark:
https://crystalmark.info/en/ (Free) or Hard Disk Sentinel https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel.php (trial) both will show the health of the drive, if it shows caution then it’s time to consider a new drive.

 

Funny, I just called Costco where we bought it and the tech said you not supposed to leave computers on constantly. Said heat build up can damage the unit. First time I've heard that.

 

If you’re leaving the laptop on permanently then ensure it is regularly restarted & use a cooling pad underneath so that it is well ventilated.
On occasion use compressed air to blow away any dust from the bottom of the laptop. If you’re comfortable with this also remove the panel on the bottom & use compressed air on the fans.

 

Thanks guys. Are we talking just laptops or desktops also to shut down?

 

Desktops have better cooling as they have more space for the components but can overheat & will shutdown if things get too hot.
