I have a dell xps laptop. My wireless works just fine at home but when I'm on college campus I can't obtain an IP address. I'd guess it's the campus wireless but other people's laptops on campus work just fine.

My laptop can't obtain an IP address and it says media disconnected when I try to release/renew my IP.

    Any thoughts?

Is the campus connection asking for a pass phrase, password or encryption key?

Do you have DHCP enabled for the wireless connection?

I think I'm right in thinking that you can't use those commands on a wireless connection only when connected via your Ethernet adapter.

Does your campus require you to use any software, Anti-virus for instance?
Or maybe software for logging on??

Humbly, the ipconfig commands will work on whatever TCP/IP connections that are active on the computer.

It sounds to me like he needs to pass some kind of security protocol.
