Laptop OS problems.

I have got a Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDX laptop. I have just formatted it, but when I put in a Windows 2000 or Even Windows 95 disc (real disc) the laptop only says "Invalid system disc. Insert disc and press any key." And I cant get on the computer and have no floppy drive.

 

Have you checked your BIOS to make sure it sees to boot from the CD/ROM? That's my first thought. How did you format the hard drive? Did you use the CD or another utility? Do you have a system restore disk? Toshiba usually ships them with all the Satellites; you might try that if all else fails.

There are OSs out there that are small enough to boot from a thumb drive but it's no good if your BIOS doesn't support boot from USB -- you might check.

Yes, it is set to read from it. I was running Windows 98 and went to restart in MS-DOS mode and typed in "format C:" then "y". No, I do not have a restore disc.

 

Do you not see my last post? It goes CD-ROM-FFD-HDD.

 

Sorry bout that, but yeah it is under Boot Priority so yeah, doesnt work.

 

I see the post your talking about but I don't see where it lists the boot order.

Ok, I think that I need to install the software for this laptop. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

 

I noticed you indicated the Win95 disc was 'real', but am unsure if your Win2k CD is also. I do not believe the Win95 disk was bootable, real or not. Is your Win2k CD able to boot a different computer?
