    Hi guys

I have a toshiba portege m100 laptop. It had a virus or spyware on it and the control button was permanently on. I know for a fact its not a keyboard issue cause i formatted the drive and the problem disappeared temporarily.

I tried formatting the drive again when the problem reappeared but at that point i had no control over my keyboard and wasnt able to format. I bought a new hard drive thinking i could just chuck it in, partition, format and install windows (which i did). But the control button remains stuck on (even when i remove the button)

Is it possible for viruses or spyware to remain in the cache or ram even after u have replaced the hard drive? and if so how can i remove them? cause mcaffe and adaware dont pick up anything.

any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Formatting or replacing your hard disk will not fix a physical problem with your keyboard. Try replacing your keyboard or at a minimum first start by shutting down your PC and unplugging your keyboard. Then use a spray duster to clean all around the keyboard jack on both the PC end and on the keyboard itself. If cleaning does not help, borrow a keyboard from someone as a test and see it that helps.

I seriously doubt this is malware!

Hi chaslang thanks for the welcome & reply. I took ur advice and connected my pc keyboard up to my laptop and still couldn't type or anything.

I really dont feel confident about opening up my laptop cause i might break it.
    Thanks though

Do it the other way around! You need to find another standard keyboard (borrow one from a friend if necessary) to plugin to your PC and see it it works okay.

    Did you try cleaning first?
