Laptop Problems

Hello Out There,

I'm not too hot with computers so I'll try to be concise :-

My laptop all of a sudden refuses to open applications from the start menu and won't display desktop icons either, much along the lines of " windows cannot find '(null)' ". But all the fixes online did not do anything. I got NoAware3 and this managed only to have a blank screen after the windows welcome screen, but I can get round this with the "enable VGA mode" from the safe mode screen.
