    Hi,
I disassemble my 9300 Inspiron to repair the audio connectors and I could get to it so I put the unit back together again I have done this several times before, upon re-boot on the first black screen I get this,
    ****manufacturing mode: level 67 ****
Press Fn-X to return the system to normal running mode.
After about a minute I get
Warning! Battery is on a critically low.
    Press F1 to continue.

    Internal HDD HARD error!

WARNING the battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge this battery.
    Continuing without F1/F2
ERROR attempting to boot from Onboard NIC
    Option ROM copy failed.
    Press any key to continue.
Nothing happens, I tried F2 for and to get in to BIOS and I get to another screen with the chose to boot in to BIOS but it gets stuck and dose nothing.

When you put it back together was there a CMOS battery under the keyboard? Did you put that back correctly? Could you have lost a CMOS clear jumper usually located near the battery?

    inventor1949 Private First Class

That is interesting when I pull the top cover I dint see the battery been connected to the board (the battery is raped in blue silicon jacket) so i pull Little harder and it got freed "unplugged" but clear jumper? I don't see a jumper,

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Yes, laptops are not likely to have jumpers because of BIOS passwords, my mistake. Well, I haven't had much finding anything relevant to your problem all the results say bad MB but that shouldn't be the case here.

Since you found the battery unplug the little connector so it is no longer attached to the MB and remove the large laptop battery and AC power for a minute or two and then reconnect everything and see if that does anything to reset CMOS.

Thanks, here is what I did; I disassemble the unit, remove the battery pack, taken out the plate, keyboard, LCD, case cover (unplugged the battery first) and unplugged the case cover jack, now I’m looking at the mother board, taken out the 4 screws holding the board in order to get to the audio connectors because their under the it the 4 screws did not freed the board so I remove the graphics card to see if there is more screws under but their were non so not been able to free the board I stop and had lunch and thing so decided not to go any further so I reinstall the graphics card the 4 screws plug in the COMS battery screw in the case cover add the keyboard, LCD and the cover plate insert the battery pack plug it in and power up then the message ****manufacturing mode: level 67 ****

I tried all the recommendations from here http://www.ihatedell.net/forum/phpB...error-manufacturing-mode-level-67-t11282.html and nothing changed ones I was able to get a screen with the system diagnose or boot in to BIOS but it dint respond it was stuck there for hours.
I don’t thing I left anything out other then I have taken laptops and PC apart several times before with out any ill effects, that’s why I’m puzzled with this.
The unit was working nicely before the attempt in fact I have taken it thru a malware removal “AppInit_DLLs: takesebo.dll" and it was working grate.

    I hope this helps.

Make sure the battery cable is seated firmly and the battery is in the slot with the correct polarity.

Here is information on manageability mode
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...&component=-1&lang=-1&doclang=en&toggle=false

The options will be 1, 2, 3 or 5 (4 is only available in certain countries).

Sorry but I don’t see the relevance here I dint install a new board it still have the same board.

You are still completely unable to enter F2 immediately at startup? Because this looked promising...

    *******
Have you tried taking it back down to the point of your disassembly and just reassembling to make sure things went back together correctly.

  16. Ok you got me. MAYBE one of the screws hit something when you put in back together? Have you tried the Dell fourm? My old dell 7000 went crazy once after I put in new memory ( it had to be totaly disasembled to get to the second memory slot) and wouldnt do anything other than turn on-no bios or anything. I took it apart and back together again 4 times then gave up on it, ebay'd it and the guy that bought it did the same but found a screw the was like 1/2 a mm to long and was shorting the board!!:cry. Made me mad cause I put in a new dvd drive, memory,HD and vid card and CPU, but at least I made my $$ back.(it was all free except the dvd burner.)

Now that you mention the screw their was loose screw on the underside of the board that I took out but their was no power to the board.
BTW how do I fined the board model? Is it on the board?

    Attached Files:

  18. One question is why do you keep taking it apart? And the board model should be on the board itself. If not just google all the number (a pain) till something comes up. Did you try the Dell community forums? And even thought there was no power to the board don't isn't what Im talking about. A screw too long the hits the wrong part of the board will short it out. But it ususlly won't do what your describing. I'll jump on the Dell forums and see what if anything I can find out. Used to be lots of help there but here the last couple of years everyone just buys a new computer and don't mess with the old one.

Thanks, Well good question some of the advice I’m getting is take it apart and trace your steps, well I did and nothing looks out of place.
I will try the dell board and see.

  20. These are the numbers of your board. (Y4694 / 0Y4694) BUT there seems to be a Gen1 and a Gen2 model. Here is to links for your 9300 from ebay. Look and see if these match the way your looks.

Dell is good at taking a MB and using it one 2-3 different laptops. So it may be tough to find the right one. I'm going to the Dell community forums now to see what I can find out. Don't give up!

I've been rereading your first post and it looks like it is going through a check list in maintenance mode and not recognizing most of the hardware.

I think the trick is to try to get the Fn + X key recognized immediately at startup. Don't wait for the message but hold down/or press repeatedly the keys while starting the computer. I think once you see the Fn + X message it is too late. Please try it a few times before declaring it doesn't work. I'm not finding a lot of alternatives.

Yes thanks I have done that with Fn-X and F12, F2, F1 right at the start one at the time of course.

Yes but clearly something is wrong because your computer thinks a new motherboard has been installed.
Did you read about if you press the wrong key the first time...?
Perhaps in your case F1 was not the proper key to press and that's why you are stuck in manufacturing mode with the error you see.
Take it apart and look for the yellow label as shown in the picture.

  24. inventor1949

    inventor1949 Private First Class

Your reply is confusing I don't see how the "Did you read about if you press the wrong key the first time...?" have to do I didn’t press any key I just power up and the Manufacturing Mode came up and that is were I'm still will you please explain what you mean? Thanks

You are stuck in manufacturing mode because your computer, for some undetermined reason (believe me, if I could figure that one out, I'd tell you the fix), thinks that the motherboard has been replaced.
You can keep turning it off and on and pressing keys at random until you get tired of doing that and seeing the same error each time.
At some point in time, you need to go to the page where it addresses the error you keep seeing ****manufacturing mode: level 67 ****
and follow the steps to get it out of manufacturing mode.

    This is the yellow sticker
Here is the information on pressing the wrong key when manufacturing mode appears
bold added by me. That sounds drastic.
Now you got directions to press Fn-X when the computer booted up.
    Next you got this.
    Did you?
    You then got this
So either the wrong key was pressed or the keystrokes are not registering.

Now suppose you pressed all the wrong keys. You did say this
F12 is not one of the keys to press. Perhaps by pressing Fn-X, F12 you removed your chance to get out of manufacturing mode. I have no idea; it would not hurt to do a live chat or email Dell support and go through everything you've done.

Towards the bottom of the page it says this
It doesn't say anything about what happens if you press something like 12.

So at this point I see four options for you:
    1. Go here http://support.dell.com/support/top...&component=-1&lang=-1&doclang=en&toggle=false
scroll to the bottom and see if the
Change Manageability Modes 1 and 5 if Incorrectly Selected on E-Family Laptops steps works to finally get the computer out of the loop you are stuck in
    2. Contact Dell by email or live chat or both
    3. Replace the motherboard
    4. Sell off the parts and buy another computer

Why not do a live chat or email Dell? That support is always free and someone may be able to give you some steps that are not posted on the webpage. There are some tech support people who can be helpful at times.
