Laptop screen is shutting off

    Topic about says it all, I'll be doing something on my laptop(asus s96j) and the screen will go black with no warning. If I put it to sleep and turn it back on again it usually works fine again... for a random amount of time.

    Any ideas? My warranty ran out about a month ago so this is really scaring me.

    How do you start in safe mode? Other than hitting f1 or whatever when the computer turns on ( I don't have that option ).

    I tried changing resolution, didn't do anything. I'm figuring safe mode will alloow me to figure out if it is the monitor or the video card.
