Laptop Start Up Issues.

Hi there. Having problems with my Lenovo Z580 laptop, running I7 processor and 8gb of crucial ballistics Ram. For the past month 9 out of ten times the laptop refuses to boot up ( i think ) . Theres no beebs or anything on startup and the laptop seems to be running as normal but nothing appears on the display (completely blank ) and just stays that way. Tried plugging it into a external monitor but nothing appears on that as well. Then all of a sudden it will start up no problems and runs fine when on. Ive noticed if i take the ram sticks out and swap them round, after the machine has sorted itself out it then boots up as well. Its becoming really frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

The fact it does the same thing with an external monitor suggests it is the graphics solution and with notebooks, that means that typically means the motherboard.

I assume you mean the problems starts up again?

I am afraid your only recourse is to take it to a shop and have them do a thorough check but I suspect you need a new motherboard. And to that, it may just be time to shop for a new notebook.

 

What Operating System and any service packs if installed.

 

With an I7 processor, you more than likely have a dedicated nVidia graphics card. If plodr's suggestion about the RAM modules doesn't pan out, you may need to have the graphics card replaced. But, I think the problem points to the RAM.
