laptop to desktop

    trying to network laptop to Desktop through router

    they both can see each other

    the desktop can open the laptops files just fine

    the laptop cannot open the desktops files

    error says not a valid host name
    we've changed the name to almost identical to each other doesn't help
    don't think it is name issue
    turned the firewalls off, didn't help

    any ideas

    one other oddity

    in the laptop Local Area Connection properties
    there is a tab that allows me to check a permission to allow other users to connect

    in the desktop Local Area Connection properties
    that tab is missing
