Hi, Laptop started going into hibernation randomly even while using it. After disabling hibernation it no longer does this. I'm not sure if this is related to malware, but thought I'd include it in-case.

When I tried to run combofix it asked if the machine was xp home, I said no since it's xp professional. It came up with an error trying to download the recovery console, but went on. It got to the screen saying, Scanning for infected files...
This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes
However, scan time for badly infected machines may easily double

and the computer froze up completely. I couldn't even move the mouse. I've rebooted and tried combofix again, but it always freezes on this screen.

    Do you see any infections?

    Thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You use a version of MGtools that is more than 3.5 years out of date. Please download and run the version given in the READ & RUN ME and attach a new log.

Woah sorry about that, here's the new one.

While I was just running the latest mgtools my computer just shutoff out of nowhere. After restarting it ran fine the second time. Not sure if this is spyware related or if something's going bad with the laptop. It ran all last night and today without it shutting itself off or going into hibernate.

    Thanks again for your help.

I'm not seeing any malware in your logs.

Your PC is slow starting up because it is an older slower type PC and has about 1/4 th of the amount of memory that I would recommend having to properly support running Windows XP SP3 and other applications that you are running. Your logs show
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 236.96 MB
    We recommend 2GB.

You can help things a little by doing the below to remove some unncessary startups.

First Uninstall Ask Toolbar also uninstall the below
    Google Update Helper
    Google Updater

Now delete the below task files:
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\Easy Internet Sign-up.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\Google Software Updater.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\RealUpgradeScheduledTaskS-1-5-21-2726568738-1711110666-4225512336-1011.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\RealUpgradeLogonTaskS-1-5-21-2726568738-1711110666-4225512336-1011.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\Scheduled Update for Ask Toolbar.job

Now run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] "C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O4 - Global Startup: HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk = C:\Program Files\Hp\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
    O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Now reboot and see if this has helped your boot time a little.
