laptop won't boot up with driver missing or corrupt

hi i have an acer aspire laptop with 1gh vista home premium, and it's stuck on a black screen when booting with a file; windows/system32 drivers/avgmfx86.sys
with status of ; 0xc0000098
windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
please help it was working fine then it started this with the endless loop of not booting safe mode or any of the other options..

i have a usb vista iso ..didn't seem to work , and avg rescue disk didn't work ..Help ;/:-o

The avgmfx86.sys file is associated with the AVG antivirus program/s. First thing to try is to go to the AVG site and search the forums for posts concerning problems with or caused by that file.

Acer Aspire laptops have a hidden recovery partition that you should be able to access by pressing Alt-F10 while the thing is booting. However, I'm not sure what kind of recovery options are offered with this . . . it could just be a complete system restore back to when the laptop was new and fresh from the factory.

If there is nothing on the drive you want to keep, then this is an option to consider. You would of course have to update the operating system with all the security, etc. updates that came out since the laptop was new. Any files or programs you added to the laptop will, of course, be gone.

Hi my friend , you can give your model of your laptop , at the bottom of the laptop a sticker is located informing you about this , the more ram is better i think , also you can try to repair your operating system :wave
