Laptop won't go on standby mode

Hello everyone. This is my first post, though I've been browsing this website for the last couple of days with the hope of finding a solution to an ongoing problem with my laptop. As indicated in the subject line, it won't go on standby when I manually click on the option or if I just leave the computer idle (I believe I have it set to go on standby if the computer has been idle for 10 or 20 minutes).

After I found this link, http://www.cincomsmalltalk.com/userblogs/buck/blogView?showComments=true&entry=3302843044, I was led to believe that my standby problem was due to Winfixer or Virtumonde (spelling?). I have the Windows Defender installed and it detected that particular malware (three times today, in fact) and it has been removed three times. After restarting the computer and everything, I find that I still can't put it on standby mode. It would start up just a few seconds after it appears to go on standby, and the screen is black only for appearances' sake. If my laptop is on standby mode, back when it was working normally, the Power light flashes on and off. I knew that the black screen was just a hoax, I suppose you can say, because the Power light remains on.

After all of this rambling, I guess I'm wondering what else could be causing this problem for me? This laptop is only a year old, so I hope there's nothing majorly wrong with it (it's a Dell Inspiron 6000).

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice!

    Marie

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

I'm not sure if your problems are malware or not. Let's find out.

First run this: Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal -

Then attach the VundoFix log to your next message.

If you still have problems after doing the above, please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis
