Latest Firefox.. Final or beta ??

    Firefox 8 "FINAL"

    Has anyone else downloaded this programme from Major Geeks in the past few days and had problems??

    FIRSTLY, when installed and opened it brings up a "home page" telling me "Welcome to Firefox 8 BETA !!!!!!

    If that it not bad enough... every time I open Firefox it also opens multiple pages, usually a minimum of three, telling me about all the add-ons I have previously downloaded or updated as well as at least one blank page.

    NOT life threatening... but a damned nuisance having to zap them and not go one step too far and have to start all over again.

    A check on FileHippo shows the latest version YOU class as FINAL as Beta 6 !!!!

    7.0.1 is the current, non-beta, version.

    Mozilla is doing security updates for two versions: version 3.6.# and version 7.0.# only. # changes as the security adds another number to the current version.
    All others are insecure so are not recommended for usage. Anything above version 7, as of November 8th is a beta version.
    If you want secure and stable then run 3 or 7.

    Not true, version 8 is out of beta now; it was released today. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/. I have two systems that already updated from 7.0.1 to 8.0 via the update release channel from Firefox's Help screen.

    Correction, I just went to Mozilla's page and 8 is now out of beta. I was unable to edit my previous post.

    It has been extremely hard for me to stay current because we've had no power and heat for more than 8 days. It came back on Sunday after 9pm and then went out again today.

    McDonalds has been my lifeline for internet, provided I can find someone to recharge my netbooks. It has not been easy.
