I am not really a laptop kinda person i would rather use my desktop.

But any way i spent the last hour trying to figure out way in the world the wireless connection would not turn on this Gateway laptop.I guess my mom accidentally turned it off.

I have ran every scan i know of even malware scan to double check for any thing out of the ordinary.Nothing Clean

Then i ran a chkdsk to see if any of the drives were corrupted.
    Then i ran a SFC /scannow.

    These came up clean.

I tried services to check all of them were correct. And they were.

And then i finally figured out that the F3 Key turns off the wireless for some random reason.

Is there any way to stop that from happening.

    This is a Gateway NV57H57u

    wile e coyote...

    Thanks for the entertainment.

This might help understand the issue, but I don't see anything about turning it off:

No idea if this will help:

If you have a hotkey process like this one running:

    http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/Hotkey-Utility-10104-program.aspx

check to see if it is in your startups. Maybe you can disable it that way. In the search box type msconfig and then run the app. Startups tab->uncheck the app, so that it won't start on boot. You don't have to restart, and I don't know why MS prompts for a restart after changing one of these...:-o

The F3 toggles wireless on and off, provided I suspect if the Fn key is held down.
There is a light on the front left of the laptop that should show if wireless is on. If you see no light, I suspect it is off, so holding down Fn key and pressing F3, the key with the communication symbol on it should toggle it on.

No all i need to do is touch the F3 key to turn off the wireless option.I don't need to touch any thing else.

I can see where that is not the best feature. With our 3 netbooks, we also have to hold the FN key down so it isn't quite so easy to have a wrong key press and turn off the wireless. Two use Fn+F3 and the other Fn+F2.

I know the keyboards for the MS Surface have the radio/display/trackpad/media settings as the primary keypress, and if you want to access the "F" (F8 for example) keys, you need to hold Fn and press the F8 key to access it's original function.

The same thing goes for a ThinkPad that I set up on a domain where I work. Grrr, that made me mad trying to get the thing to boot into Safe Mode... :mad

Anyways, it would seem that this is how they're set up from the OEMs these days? I've seen a setting in the UEFI/BIOS of some laptops though that controls whether the Fn triggers "Function" or "Special" keys. I'd have a look.
