G'day I was hoping you'd help me out

I did some research today into getting an LCD monitor that would serve me well not just for crispness of picture but also for gaming (refresh rate) and what not. Anyway, a monitor with the best combination of both I could find. Tom's Hardware review was especially keen on it.

I finally settled on the Viewsonic VP930b which seems to have enjoy rave reviews. Anyway, for some reason I am having major dramas trying to find it in Australia. I have tried a huge range of Aussie online retailers to no avail. Everyone seems to stock the VP920b however it seems to be a far less capable monitor.

I also just went to the computer store in town and all their monitors were crap.

    Questions:

    1) Why would I be finding it so hard to find the VP930b in Australia? Is it old now?

    2) Perhaps any recommendations that you know to be comparable with the VP930b?

Any help would be most appreciated
    Cheers

I love my Dell, though Viewsonic I used to have was good. Dell prices can not be beat and they typically come in with no dead pixels. I wonder if Aussies have their own Ebay, you might look their, but if you can get Dell, dont count them out. If you can afford it (about $750 US, originally it was $1200) their 23" widescreen is a gamers dream come true.

Thanks for advice. I didn't consider dell to be honest, assuming it to be more of a 'no frills' brand. I will definitely take a look.

I'm not actually an avid gamer. I probably would be if I had some time to scratch my arse, but unfortunately I don't :(. I like the idea of buying a screen that will perform well under gaming conditions but since I'll only generally have time to pull out a game once or twice a fortnight I think I'll pass on the widescreen. Besides, I'm looking for 19" because of the size of the screen slot in the computer table aswell :p

I've also been pushed in the direction of a Samsung 971P which look excellent. Cheers

    Dear Dannyd,

Have you tried TigerDirect.com? I visited one of your Australian mentions, and went a bit further, and found a supplier for the monitor you want. It can be found at ...

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1638744&sku=V18-1950

I know that's a bit arcane, but you might want to try them. They have the Viewsonic VP930B / 19" in stock.

If the huge link doesn't work, maybe you could just go to tigerdirect.com and see what happens.

    Just trying to help.
