I don't know how many of you here have changed careers in your 30's, but it can be a really scary thing. AS of this week, I have separated from the safety net of full time work at the answering service, and am now a full time hairstylist.

This is a scary proposition as I work for minimum wage vs commission (which means I get paid whichever is more, 7.15/hr or 40% of my service sales) but I think that I will be able to fly with it.

So... any CNY Geeks, feel free to come out and support a fellow geek... see my website addy in my sig :)

Just have a good feeling about all this and wanted to share.

I'm going to be waiting for your post when you announce that you're going to open up your own Hair Salon.;)

I bought my first retail business when I was 30 and yes it is scary.

Just take each day as it comes and remember YOU are in control. :)

If you need any support or have questions, I will help you all I can ;)

    Good luck :)

I've been fortunate(?) to have the same job for almost thirty years at three different places, all related somehow.
I've never had to worry about changing jobs. I've thought about it sometimes when I've hated my job, but never took the plunge. There's a huge demand for auto techs, so work is always available, providing the Fords keep needing repairs.:D
Good luck CT. I think it's the right move, especially if you consider quality of life.

Yep. Changed my profession from Industrial Chemist to running my own Co.'s full-time when I was 36, mainly due to family and health reasons at the time. It has a lot to said for it, but it does mean I work some really horrendous hours at times. All in all, it's well worth it, though, i.m.o.

I'm pretty sure you'll do well, too, because it's something you enjoy and are good at. And let's face it - most people need their hair cut sooner or later ;). Good luck, Jim.

THanks all!! I appreciate the good wishes.

Would have responded sooner, but have been adapting to a 'normal' schedule again (no overnights for cutting hair) and have been getting the home ready for winter time and that has been occupying a lot of my time lately :)

2 weeks out and so far, so good :)

OK, need to go shower so I can get ready to go to the salon and work :)
