Left 4 Dead 2

hey guys, a quick update on my system...

PSU - Gigabyte Odin 720W
CPU - I5-2500K
Mobo - AsRock Z68Pro3
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws-X 1333MHz 8GB (2x4GB Dual Channel mode)
GPU - Gigabyte HD6850 OC 1GB
Storage - OCZ Vertex II 60GB SSD, 1TB Hitachi, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 160GB WD (old one I couldn't let go)
OS -Win 7 Home Premium 64bit

I've just upgraded, all parts except for the 160GB WD HDD are brand new. I have the OS installed on the SSD and my Steam files are kept on the 160GB HDD left from my last PC.

On my previous PC I had the OS on an old IDE HDD and Steam was on the 160GB HDD (SATA2) and I had no problems running any games from my Steam Library. I assumed that it would work the same with my new build but to my dismay it hasn't.

Steam works fine - no problems at there. Left 4 dead 2 loads correctly - the Valve Icon Screen Appears, the Intro video plays right through without a problem, and all the menus work fine. The problem occurs when I enter a game. The Load screen appears and the game loads. After loading I get the Steam Community screen floating above the game screen and almost immediately after dismissing this the game crashes to desktop. Steam isn't effected at all.

I have tried deleting the left 4 dead 2 common.ncf and left 4 dead 2 client.ncf files which causes Steam to "re-install" as others have suggested. This hasn't worked and I'm out of ideas and have had little luck finding another solution.

So can anybody help?

 

Turn off Steam Community, and see if that stops the crashing?

Another thing you can try (make sure you know your login credentials!) is to go to your Steam directory (in Windows 7 it defaults to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) and delete the file ClientRegistry.blob Then restart the client again and log in, and run the game again.
