I was unsure if I should post this in the hardware or software forum, as I'm not sure if it's hardware or software related.

I have the Logitech MX-310 optical mouse. Only recently has it started it's rather quarky behavior. When I left-click, it will bring up the context menu as if I had right clicked. Also, right-clicking seems to have no effect whatsoever. I checked my mouse properties and everything is set up just the way it should be (left-click = select, right-click=context menu) so I know that's not the problem. I also updated to the most recent drivers for both my mouse and keyboard (the Logitech Elite) just to be sure it wasn't something that could be caused by some conflicting issue between the two.

My question is, has this ever happened to anyone else? If so, how did you remedy it?

If I'm not clear enough in my post, please ask questions.

When I use any of these progams, and I’m not sure which one does it. Spybot Search and Destroy, or Spyware blaster, or even Ad-aware SE. I have an Microsoft 5 button mouse/optical, and the button’s go back to the default after running those programs. I just re-install the program over, I’ve done it, I think three times now……………hope it gives an idea, and direction in which to search………..wobbles

I have just installed MX310 and from the get-go have exactly the same symptoms plus others. No right button function and left button sometimes acts like Context and at others like Click/Select. I have also modified the right button to Click/Select and it still does not function. I thought it was a faulty mouse but am beginning to think it might be software related. Also downloaded and installed that latest (9.79) mouseware. Hope somebody has a clue as to what is going on.

Fairly old thread but I'll add my two cents worth in case it helps someone in the future...

I have found on various Windows systems and various computers that this will happen for no reason I can find but it rarely means the mouse is in trouble or that the software, drivers or settings have changed.

I find that if you right-click to bring up the context menu when this is happening, the left-click then starts behaving normally again. I don't think I've ever even had to do a restart to fix the problem, only use the right-click and then everything goes back to normal.

So in case that isn't clear; if the left button keeps bringing up the context menu, right-click and the context menu will come up. Now use the left button again and it will be back to normal. Don't ask me why...
