I was wondering if it is illegal to post an embed video from youtube or google video on to your website(website having ad sense) if it is copyrighted. Even though you were not the person who uploaded the videos. I thought this was legal but i think it may not be due to articles i read on the guy who owns tv-links .... just any comments would be great... ( by the way I am not planning on making a site with like movies)

    Hi

Great question and my view from a non legal background is that, YouTube is a harbour of illegal videos anyway, as most are from copyrighted sources, TV, Film, Music Videos etc however YouTube do not seem to regulate this or the companies whos media it is, are ok with it.

However on the part about embeding video on your bolg or website then YouTube or the uploader should disable embedding as they have a help section on how to embed videos on your blog etc http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=74648

Cannot comment on the guy who owns tv-links as I have not seen his space on YouTube or the videos referenced, but if this guy has uploaded them then unless he has disabled embedding and put up a do not copy this copyrighted media then its open house, if the videos where not uploaded by him and he owns copyright then he needs to take this up with YouTube.

Don't know anything about the legal stuff etc.

What I noticed on youtube was that when I bookmarked a link to one of my favorite songs of John Lennon that when I returned to it some time after that it was removed due to some violation of some kind. Luckily there was another of the same song/video available and have had no problems watching it since. It has been watched over 13 million times.

Therefore it seems that youtube does (sometimes) looks out for copyrights or something.

I think if a particular video from a source such as YouTube is found to be illegal it will be removed at the YouTube level. At that point anyone whom has linked or reposted the video from the source will have it disabled as the link will then lead to a null source.

However if you are aware a video is copyrighted and copy right law states that unauthorized use and distribution can result in fines and criminal charges then self police yourself and simply don't repost it.
