Are you asked to enter a password?

    It doesn't seem so.
Wait until other users log on. Maybe someone has a solution.

Fairly newish laptop, what caused you the need to replace cmos?

It had died and it kept giving the "check time and date" error after replacing it went away for two reboots and then came back but this time with a warming bios lock.

Can you give mobo, bios and OS details?

Have you tried resetting the jumpers?

Try pressing F1 at boot up. If it asks for a password, try admin.

    this is just an example.

To reset bios u have to open back side of your laptop then you will find a motherboard circuit there.
pull cmos cell on motherbord for 15 minute so it can reset to defaults.
Also u can reset with jumper settings read carefully on motherboard there is 1 jumper near cmos cell read closely on the print on the board. " bios reset or clear"
It is on 1-2 position right now set it in 2-3 position then power up then all bios settings are reset.
then again set it in 1-2 its original position.

About all I am finding suggest replacing the mb. But first, try Supervisor.

As a reminder, this is an old laptop. Replacing the MB would not be economical.

I don't want to replace the motherboard if i don't have to because i only spent $52 on it but the boards are only like $19-$30 so its not too expensive if needed.. Thanks for the help..
