Shows how pathetic the human race is capable of being when not one single person does a thing to help the man.

Pretty sick. I can actually almost understand the pedestrians who saw it up close. You'd be in total shock. But the cars! They keep driving by. Hell, the one car was parked and pulled out of the parking spot right next to the guy!

Yeah, he'll be okay. Just... look busy. Pick up your cell phone and act like you were in the middle of an important call. Look away and pretend that you didn't see it, because you've got plausible deniability, no?

I wonder if the car that pulled in maybe called 911 and then left or something, he was there a while, and then just pulled away. I think if you're not a help, you're in the way in a situation like that, but anyone could have went and talked to the guy, and made sure he was alright...

Wow thats unbelievable. Mind you if you did help him i'm thinking he might sue you for some reason.

The guy just walked out into the street and actually caused the accident but that does not absolve the passers by from stopping to help him.

we don't know the outcome of his injuries but he could easily die from such an impact and the lack of help would have contributed.

There's the link to the subsequent story, and another link to Fox in Boston.. He was in critical condition last i knew.. 78 years old.. he might have just not had as much time as he though.

Still, you're taught to hit a car before a person, or anything else for that matter.. The video should have been of a guy walking into the street, and cars slamming into parked cars.. If you ask me...

looks to me like the cars were actually not only speeding, but pulled onto the wrong side of the road to pass the SUV at speed at the moment of impact. That guy was in the clear had the vehicles been following traffic laws. He was checking the right direction while waiting for an opening across the other lane, and got smacked.

The occupant of the second vehicle was obviously rather concerned with getting to the first, and/or getting away from something.

I saw that on the news, they said no one even called 911, a cop just happened to arrive. People are becoming so insensitive. In some places thats the only way you can get across the street or else you'll be there forever. A little caution is in order though also.

    <sigh>

I hit a coyote, once. It was a dead bang drop, and unavoidable, as he waited until I was 10 feet awa to jump out in front of me. I was on the highway, I went and checked him, assured myself he was dead, and carried him to my car so he could be dealt with with dignity. I suffered through the inevitable visions of kujo on my drive home.

I tagged a deer, and stopped to try to find her, but couldn't.

I've stopped for small birds that got caught in the vortex of a passing vehicle and smacked on the ground.

I stopped for an opposum, and called animal control for help.

I've stopped for every motorcyclist I've ever seen, on the side of the road who looked like s/he was in trouble.

When we had a hotel fire I was one of three civilians who went in to evacuate the building. I had to act like a drill sgt to get one man out of a room that was fully involved (in flames). He was in shock and couldn't think clearly. I was dressed in leathers, from motorcycling. I was protected from the heat, and started in after him barking orders, and he snapped to and stumbled out.

I helped bring a woman to safety after she plunged her car 3 stories down a mountan. She had a compound tib/fib, and crawled up to the road where we found her the next morning. She had been out all night.

ANd finally, I almost died when attacked by a gang of 9 teenaged girls while I was trying to help a senior citizen with DT's. I took a severe head injury, and was sick for most of the last 6 1/2 years. I'm told I was lucky to live.

Now, I'm not trying to say I'm any better than anyone here. Or better than anyone most of the time, and I'm not asking for thanks, I'm no hero, and I willing put myself out there to render aid, and would do it again. This isn't a list of accomplishments, and I'm not bragging. These are just facts. People just don't seem to feel a sense of responsability any more. They go to war protests and are more or less anonymous, but do something one-on-one and they can't buck-up and do what neds to be done. Maybe we're just losing our empathy.

Sometimes helping people is risky, but I would rather die, in a way that has meaning, and hopefully speaks well of how I've lived my life, trying to do what I believe right, than ignore something like this!

I think people are scared. I think they are afraid of feeling an unpleasant emotion when they try to help, I think they are afraid of the rapport you develop with the victim/survivor, I think they are afraid of trying to help someone who still dies - afraid they will feel the sorrow of that person passing.

The whole affair is a sad commentary on today's society!

Yes, but that's what the "Good Samaritan" laws are for. They offer some protection, as long as you don't stray from the "reasonable care" standard.

For most people that would be stopping traffic, calling 911, taking vitals, doing CPR, doing something to maintain an Airway, control Bleeding, and checking Circulation, & putting a blanket or coat over someone to keep them warm, as they are most likely in shock. The typical ABC's "Airway" "Bleeding" "Circulation".

This url gives a good example.
