    hi all,
so, the guy showed up that day, swapped out some stuff, didnt work. he talked to lenovo, i talked to lenovo. he left. i talked to case manager the next day, she said they needed to replace 3 major parts to justify a replacement. i told her that you guys dont know how to fix it, check your own forums. she said they have to follow procedure, i told her fine come here tomorrow with another board and we can be done with it. she called me back and said she looked at the info i was talking about and acknowledged they couldnt fix it so a replacement would occur. then it was a matter of me finding a suitable replacement, which i think i did.
all in all, not excited about the initial problem as i really liked that laptop, but lenovo ended up taking care of it. gave me the list price of the model (which was much more than what i paid for it) plus $150 to use toward replacement, and in the end, the laptop i ended up with was actually above that amount by about $100, so they did good by me.

So you already got the new laptop? If so, then that seems really good.

I accept that Man cannot create perfection 100% of the time. So after-the-sell support can really make a difference in how I think about a company. That's why I really like and use almost exclusively Gigabyte motherboards in all our builds. Years ago, I had a "4" year old board fail due to leaky capacitors. On a whim I contacted Gigabyte to complain and they sent me a new board. Understand, that board had a "3" year warranty but they replaced it anyway. I've been a fan ever since.

Digerati, yeah, got it 2 days after they approved the model I wanted, which as I mentioned was $100 above the fair spending limit they allotted.

I recently had a situation like yours with scotts. The cable on my edge guard spreader broke after a few years. I contacted them through live chat prepared to have to bitch and moan, but they immediately asked for my address to ship the part out to me free of charge. Different costs involved for these companies obviously, but still.

Lol, was just thinking, for all I know they could have life time warranty I wasnt aware of and was impressed for nothing...

True, but you just spread the word and "word of mouth advertising" can make or break of company.

But speaking of Scotts, I may need to check into that because the tub of my spreader is cracked. Maybe I can get a whole new spreader! :)

Just a heads up, they sent me the wrong part. So the part that they were supposed to send they say that that's a part that can't be sent out. So they said I have to send them a part from the spreader as proof of purchase and they will send me a check for a new spreader. They asked for the sheathing from the cable that broke. I told them I would send the whole cable. They said fine.
I don't think they really understand what cable broke because the guy said the sheathing is thin and easy to remove. The broken cable has a thick tough hard sheath. The other cable is thin and flimsy. Regardless, hopefully a check is on its way soon.
You may be able to get a check as well obv.

From the Lenova forum for other to see

"In the case of the IdeaPad 700 and Touchpad problems, a BIOS update should be available at the end of June. At the moment the solution is in the testing phase. Please be patient. The shipping of the device itself for the present moment does not make any sense because replacing any component does not solve the problem. I will contact you as I will be informed about the release of the new BIOS version."

    Don't hold your breath
