Ok, Im planning on getting a used Leveno T60/61

If I want Win 7, I will go with the 61, etc.

On the 60 I would put or buy 4gb ram, with solid state drive, so I get it for like under $150.00 Probably not much more for a T/61 with Win7

Issue is older software compatability, from my 6 year old camera, to Photoshop 6, etc, not that I have much software, but those are the main programs I use, Win7 does not run PS 6 from what I've heard.

I would also use Linux mint for online internet.

This is a computer to use in the boonies with solar power to charge up the battery etc. Use once or twice a week to load photos and chop them up, nothing special.

Still on XP on one machine now, no issues so far...:wave so I don't have a problem, Win 7 may be more secure etc, but software issues?

Anyway, anyone have an old T60 etc? Or why should I update to Win7, when online I would probably use Linux Mint??????

Why should I stay with XP on a T60.??? With 4GB and SSD, it should be blazing speed...?

    THanks

If you have a PC running Windows XP, get the PC with Windows 7. Many older programs run in Windows 7. Example: Adobe Audition 1 (2003), Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 (2007) run in Windows 7. Do some research. Also, there are thousands of free programs listed on MajorGeeks.

I use Windows XP & 7 on a partitioned hard disc. When I use Windows XP, I don't connect to the internet, or connect USB devices, or load CDs/DVDs not belonging to me.

As for security, someone on MajorGeeks said: "The best antivirus program is what's between your ears."

Thank you for your wisdom. Not sure if I can use my old XP discs if I get rid of my older computer, will the Windows website upgrade XP to SP3? I have Dell Windows, not sure it would load on an IBM.

Also, I would use Linux for internet. Just not seeing the need for Win 7.

Sometimes a Windows XP OEM disc will work on another PC. I don't know if there are any 'legal' implications.

SP3 for Windows XP can be downloaded from MajorGeeks. :major

As for Linux, if your not a gamer, Linux Mint or Ubuntu are very popular. And there are many support forums. And you don't have to worry about malicious :crap
