Lexmark P3150 Printer Software Stuck

Good Day All.
I have a Desktop Dell Dimension 3000 running a 32bit Windows XP

I have a brand new Lexmark P3150 (all in one) printer. When trying to install the software CD that came with the unit it gets through the install ok. Yet, when I click on the All-In-One center it says "Preparing lexmark all in one center for first use" and "Searching for scanning applications please wait." This continues for hours. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it. The same issue happens.

At this point, I figure maybe something wrong with the CD installation so I go to lexmark and download the drivers for the printer (a file called CJB3100EN.exe) It installs as well yet does the same thing. Gets stuck in the All in one center "Preparing lexmark all in one center for first use" and "Searching for scanning applications please wait."

I did many searches on this issue, it seems like a common issue with no real fix. Any help?

Yes this is where I got the drivers from. Does the same thing as the CD does. It keeps searching for scanner applications and never stops searching

 

This printers no longer supported under lexmark guarantee

 

I doubt you'll get any support from Lexmark as the printer is more than 10 years old.

This is a long shot...
Open Services and check if Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) has started. If not, start the service.

 

Yes, the printer is old yet new in the box. I know it's not the software as I have used the CD and downloaded the drivers from lexmark and a printer driver site. The problem is always the same. It gets stuck preparing the All-In-One-Center for the first time. Very frustrating. Yes the WIA is started...

 

Is there a "Universal" printer/scanner software that would work maybe?

 

Tim I can appreciate that advice. Normally I would have already done that. However this is a old PC I use with LOTS of rare programs that only work with XP and the Printer works fine (and its a great printer/scanner). The scanner even works when I use the cheap windows scanner program (very limited features). So this is for sure a conflict someplace. Since this seems to be a big issue with Lexmark/Dell All In Ones I'm determined to be the one who helps finds a fix.
