For some reason my Lexmark X5400 has suddenly decided to recognise itself as USB Mass Storage device. It was working perfectly fine until a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't fix it one way so I created a new profile and wanted to see if it worked that way. Yep it did for about 2 days then it switched back to USB Mass Storage. When I try to print from it I keep getting the message "Unable to communicate etc". I have deinstalled it, tried to reinstall it but it keeps coming up as error for some unknown reason. I have downloaded the updated drivers from the website but even these don't want to load up correctly.:cry

Help!! Is there anything I can do, apart from reformatting my computer and starting all over again. Which will cause another problem as I have no recovery cd's..:cry

I will add that I was in the registry and unfortunately I deleted everything that related to Lexmark, this might have a major bearing on things.:cry

Any help would be most appreciated, I know I am a newbie but I can't think of anything else to do now.

    Kind regards
    Natalie

    Hello Natalie.

    May I suggest here:

    http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi

And see if possibly you can download the drivers. Once you have them downloaded. Remove the USB cord, and follow the graphical interface for the installation. I do believe what the issue is that the USB Mass Storage typically comes from SD card slots on the Printer that are built in, for Photo printing...ect. What I would suggest is try doing the install one more time.

And let us know how it goes.

My PC started recognising my printer as a mass storage device about a week ago.

I tried downloading a new driver for my Lexmark P915 printer from lexmark. It won't download as my printer is now recognised as a mass storage device. It seems that the PC is trying to save the driver to the printer. As there is no memory space it won't work.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

    Michael.M, welcome to MajorGeeks.
You need to start your own thread with your problem.
Since it has slots for CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SmartMedia, etc., just double check that there is no card in the slots.
