    Hi guys,

Have had a Lexmark x4650 for a year now and been using it via the USB cable to a windows 2000 PC and wireless to a Vista and XP laptops. The laptops have been replaced with a windows 7 laptop. Tried installing the lexmark printer onto the new laptop. At first a message kept appearing saying that a piece of software was missing and needed to be installed. Checked the computer for this software and it was already installed.
Went to the lexmark website and downloaded updated drivers (cj4600win7en64.exe). This stopped the message each time but now the printer just hangs at anything from 20% complete to 99% complete.
Ive tried uninstalling etc.. but not really sure if I'm doing things in the right order.

Any help will be greatly appreciated folks.:cry:cry

    Hi

Is your version of Windows 7 the 64bit version or the 32bit version as the driver you downloaded is the 64bit version and may not install properly.

(to check what version of Windows 7 you are using, click Start > Right Click "Computer" and choose Properties and under System and next to System Type it will tell you if its a 64-bit Operating System or a 32-bit Operating System)

This is the 32bit version of the driver HERE

So double check in add/remove that any Lexmark drivers or software are uninstalled, then reboot and install the driver again (what you could try and this does get around some istaller issues, is to right click the installer and choose Run as Administrator).

Do also take note if you have a software firewall as accidently clicking no to allow when a Firewall message about the printers installer pops up may cause the driver not to install as the firewal has blocked it

    Halo,

Many thanks for the reply. Managed to get the thing working. It was a 64 bit system that I have, so the software I downloaded was correct. It was your link to the Lexmark uninstalling link that helped as it did suggest that if you installed the printer using the disc initially then there would be additional software on the hard drive that would need to be un-installed separately. It was the additional software that was creating the hassle.

Many thanks. Have a good xmas.
