Lexmark X125 and WinXP - can't reinstall

I have a Lexmark X125 all in one printer and WinXP SP2 on a Dell computer. I installed the printer and it was working, but poorly. After printing a few things the documents would hang in the printer queue. I decided to reinstall so deleted the printer and tried to reinstall. The program seemed to copy a bunch of drivers and such but the printer didn't appear in the 'printers and faxes' window. I found a site on how to clean out Lexmark drivers and tried that. Called Lexmark and they didn't have a clue - ran me around in circles for an hour. I looked at the registry and still have Lexmark stuff there. I don't know enough about it to know if I can just delete that stuff. I considered running Hijackthis to see what it said but I don't think it is a hijack - just poor uninstall software that didn't remove everything. I ran a registry scanner and it found what it thought were errors but none seemed related to the printer problem. I am in over my head and need some help please...
I can post log files, what is in the registry, etc but don't want to post a bunch of needless stuff.

I have been unable to get this to reinstall. Have tried a program from Lexmark that was supposed to clean out the remaining parts. I looked at the registry and found references to Lexmark X125 in quite a few places. From what I found I am very surprised that the X125 does not show up in the printers and faxes folder. Not really familiar enough with the registry to know what they all mean. If someone can help me with this I will post my notes on the entries. I don't want to just delete them all without some checking that this is ok (although I am very tempted at the point to give it a try...)

I will say this - I won't be buying another Lexmark.

just to try someting different out and as you say the printer doesnt show up in Printers & Faxes folder,

then look in printers & faxes folder, does a printer show if not see if your driver will now install.

Thanks for the tip but this is not the problem. LexBce is not even on the list in the location you described. I have seen that many others have problems with this but after the problems getting the Lexmark reinstalled I have installed my trusted old HP 600C and it installed and prints without a hitch (if only they all were this easy...). I think if it ws LexBce then I would have trouble getting ANY printer working.

I have finally gotten the printer installed and it seems to be working fine (although a few days use will tell for sure).

I just stumbled onto the solution...I was not able to read what message
flashed briefly on the screen just before the install ended early. So I could see
clearly what was happening I installed a program to use CPU cycles and slow
down the computer. Actually I had to run two copies of it to slow the PC
down sufficiently. I used CPUGrabber (CPUGRAB.EXE) (available at
http://www.geocities.com/kulhain/) and set them both to 99% slowdown (Max).
I ran the install program and made notes about what files it said were
loading. To my surprise it got to the end screen where I had to make a
selection and click the button to finish. I did and the printer now works.
I don't know why this allowed the install to finish but it just works. I had run the install at least 10 times
before and it always stopped before completely finishing but never gave an
error message that I could see or the final selection screen.

Maybe this will help someone else. Lexmark support mostly told me to try things that I either couldn't do for some reason or had already tried and I had told them about before in either case.

Hate to say this Innovate, but from what you have said it sounds like the problem may have originated from your Dell, not Lexmark. Sounds like a clocking conflict if when you slowed down your Dell, the program loaded. Great to hear that you solved the problem, and hope that solution helps Icpink as well

I didn't actually change the clock speed of the Dell. I just loaded a program that used lots of CPU cycles so the Lexmark loader had more time to run. Doesn't really make a lot of sense to me but it worked the very first time when I had run the program at full speed numerous times without success. If it is some sort of weakness of the Dell timing I would like to know how to test this as I am probably running on the edge. Any recommendations on memory tests or others I should run?

BTW, for others that might be having similar troubles...I also changed my drivers from Win2000 to XP (downloaded from the lexmark site). The printer is a few years old so the CD that I had didn't have XP drivers on it. It didn't complain when I loaded it and I didn't know but apparently it loaded the 2000 drivers. That might have been the original problem with the printer hanging after a few uses.
