lexplore error

    Tried to access Microsoft update and got a message "lexplore has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL". Get the same message for ALL Microsoft web sites. Can`t update or upgrade from IE5.5 to IE6.0. Also, it`s Lexplore not iexplore.
    Ran my AntiVir,ad-aware.spybot and Asquared trojan scan but I still can`t shake this thing. Disabled sys. restore. I think this is some kind of virus but I`m out of ideas. Any help?

    WinME
    intell pent. 3 1 ghz
    256 ram
    IE 5.5
