I down loaded and ran Lexun Registry Cleaner and it located aprox 64 areas of concern. I then went through the cleaning process with no ill affects. I also have and run Crap Cleaner and run it occasionaly. Is there a difference between the two? From reading comments on Lexun it seems to be a safe and easy to run program for a novice!

I find both applications ok for registry cleaning, it just comes down to which one you prefer, if you like Lexun then stick with that, but like many many applications ofd this ilk, they all scan and find different things, due to the depth of their programming in what to highlight as a dead key.

but do take advantage of the softwares backup registry feature for the things its about to delete.

Thanks for the reply. I gives me some sense of security in that what I am doing is not going to srew up my computer!

I use Lexun and CCleaner too. Only slip-up I 've had with Lexun RegScrub is fixing the Flash Player activeX CLSID. Then I had to reinstall Flash Player...happened twice. Now I have the CLSID on the exclusion list.

Yet another vote for CCleaner, I also use EasyCleaner. TNRegCleaner is REALLY easy to use, and has always proved to be safe, but I think it's pretty limited as to what it detects in the registry. I also run NTREGOPT after every registry clean up....

Well I am back on the dicussions of registry cleaners. I am in the process of down loading a program called Registry cleaner. The reason is that my computer seems to be slowing down even though I only utilize aprox 35% of 18gb of my hard drive and have ugraded the RAM to 256. In the past I have looked at and down loaded registry cleaners and they would show up to with 300 problems but would only eliminate 10 for free. This all comes from my perception that if my computer is running slower it must have something to do with the registry. Each time I have used restore disks (aprox four times) my computer operated faster for about six months and then started to bog down. I run Spybot,Crapcleaner,Windows defender, TrendMicro, Lexun Reg cleaner and Adaware . I had in the past taken in the computer and during the course of cleaning process I sat next to the IT tech and he would locate mutiple files of the same program and delete them. I wish I had payed more attention and could figure out how he got to where he was on my computer to delete thes duplicate files. Any thoughts appreciated. I have run the protection programs in the safe mode but they did not locate a problem.

I general, registry cleaners do not aid in speeding up your PC, if they do its negligable, all they do is to remove dead an usless keys left over from poor uninstallers and temp files.

I would be looking in other areas if your PC is significantly slowing down, malware being a biggy, the amount of startup applications you have running at boot adds to using up memory and cpu time, many do not need to be starting at boot. Also do you have too many security apps running, its advisable to only have 1 of the following that live scans... Antivirus, Antispyware and Firewall, if you have a multiple of one of these it can significently slow your PC down.

If I am reading my start up correctly there is only four porgrams that start when I boot up. But your correct that even my start up takes longer. You mentioned running one program for security. I would like to run with that and just use my trend micro. So i need to put Adaware,Windows defender and spybot in the sleep mode until needed. I dont know how to perform that process. IS there a short cut with a tried and proven process?
