I have similar problem. Currently managing a PA system which has a mixer that sends out to several satellite amps. Currently have had several mixers blown mainly due to induced voltage from nearby strikes. Currently I am set up to disconnect all the outputs from the mixer so that I don't get surges from the signal wire. I want to add some DPDT toggle switches to make it easier to protect the mixer and keep other users from connecting the wrong amp to wrong mixer channel. My thought is to hook the wires that go to the amps into the switch so that in the on position they are hooked to the mixer and that in the off position they are connected to a common ground (ideally a dedicated ground rod outside). Recognizing the gap problem with toggle switches, would having the off position directly grounded protect the equipment from getting a surge? Im sure a direct strike would still blow the switch to smithereens but I think it might be enough to handle the nearby strike voltage surge.

    Thanks,

Was hoping to bump it. Which worked. Thanks Fred_G and TimW.
