    Hi All,

Please bear with me, I am not a pro user but I will try to provide best account of my problem.

I was earlier connecting to the router that I am using now using my old PC using a wired connection.

Recently I bought a new machine which came with nVidia nForce 430 chipset and with Vista as OS. I am still not a great fan of Vista so I reinstalled Win XP Professional on the machine. But wired connection do not seem to work anymore I have done the fresh installation thrice and nothing happened.

Also I got a Netgear 32 bit PCI adapter for LAN connection but it ended up in with the same problem. When I checked the hardware manager there are on;y two things un-identified by OS :

    ? "Other devices"
    .......? "PCI Simple Communications Controller"
    .......? "Unknown device"

The network adapter had been properly identified. It will be great if you can help me out, i have been trying to figure thus out since last 4 days.

    Regards

Well, the PCI Simple Communication Device is your dial-up modem, so that's not an issue, but the Unknown Device may be a required motherboard driver that allows the mobo to 'talk' to any PCI devices correctly. Download and install your motherboard chipset drivers. Visit the NetGear site and download and install the newest driver for your PCI LAN card. Reboot and set up Internet Explorer to go through the LAN card for your internet. If you still cannot connect, go to a command prompt and renew the IP adresses, and also make sure that the TCP/IP is set for an automatic IP, and not a custom IP. Do you have a router or do you connect directly to the DSL/cable modem?
If you have a router, reset it using the little button on the back. You may need a straightened paper clip to hold the button in for 15-20 seconds. After resetting the router, reboot the PC again (after making sure all your IP settings are set for automatic) and try to connect again. If it still doesn't connect, post again and we'll get a bit more advanced ;)

    Hi,

I have downloaded the chipset drivers for windows XP from the nvidia support page (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html) and used the CD which came with netgear LAN card to update the driver. I have tried renewing the IP address but it doesn't help. I connect through a Belkin router ... I have not tried the pin re-boot till now as few other things are using some servers I will try that as soon as I get them to disconnect. Earlier I have tried to reboot the router using its GUI.
